Intel 50 cores CPU picture and details, the new Intel MIC processors knocking the door
This is the beginning of Many-cores or many integrated cores processing, for the first time intel show a picture of what is called MIC (Many Integrated Cores ) architecture .
The processor will use 22nm process technology, and will be code named "Knights Corner", which will deliver a double precision floating point performance of 1 teraFLOPS, the chip will pack up to 50 cores including GPUs for graphics processing using Intel’s latest 3D tri-gate 22nm transistor process.
The new processor will allow scientists to use both CPU and co-processor performance
simultaneously with existing x86 based applications, dramatically saving
time, cost and resources that would otherwise be needed to rewrite them
to alternative proprietary languages.
No release date at the current time, but we guess that first CPU will leak at the end of 2012 or beginning of 2013.
Take look at the picture right now, it seem having the same size of the "Sandy Bridge E" CPUs which use 2012 socket :
